They are different gear ratios. Outback turns 3100 @ 65 while the Forester turns about 2700. I'm currently running this combo and have about 4-5k on it expecting viscous coupling to go when I need it the least, then I go nowhere and I'm on as unmaintained road in the Colorado Rocky's so I'm looking for the correct answer as well.
Should fit second generation Legacy/Outback model year 1995 to 1999.....
i think the wiring harness is different >.
Will fit Legacy/Outback Model Year 1995 to 1999.
Yes, it will fit and mount up just fine. But you will have to make sure the front differential gear ratio matches that of your rear differential. Or what you could do is swap the transmission from the Forester along with the rear differential from the Forester
Why not? Good car for the money. Personally, I prefer the Outback. Gas mileage is the same, you get more room, and the things that are different tend to be a little nicer in the Outback. Also, you can tuck a 10' 1x6 lumber inside the Outback that will not fit in the Forester. Of course when they get to this age, condition becomes more important than model. I'd take a cared-for Forester before a beaten Outback. --Ken
well what size rims does your Forester have? if it has the same size then it should fit.
pretty much any subaru engine will fit into any subaru if you know what your doing. but i would suggest going for a motor from a 2001 forester to be safe.
Subaru Outback
2011 Subaru Forester
From 1995 to 1999.....
yes
Probably 1996 thru 1999 if it is going wagon to wagon.
