There was also a company that you could take it to when they were brand new and they would install an LS1 in there for you while maintaining the factory warranty, for and extra cost of course.

Well depends on how much work you want to do. The engine will fit but the mounting locations are different because 98 was the first year of the LS1 in the Camaro.
