yes. many late model automatics require you to have the brakes on, before shifting into gear..... the auto uses the brake switch to "unlock" the the shifter when the brakes are on... ergo.... switch is faulty, then the auto won't "unlock"
check your fuse and your brake light switch on your brake pedal lever.
The brake light switch will be located somewhere on the brake pedal lever or at the place where the lever connects to the dash brace.

The brake light switch on almost all vehicles is located behind the brake pedal lever.
It is just above the brake pedal. The switch rests against the brake pedal lever.
check the play in your rear brake lever, may be too tight and activating the brake light switch. or the front brake lever may be depressing the switch in the control housing. or you have a bad switch. or, when you rewired it, after installing that cool skull tail light, you got the running light wire and the brake light wire backwards. The brake light switch is broken or out of adjustment. The brake light switch is attached to the brake pedal lever above the brake pedal pad.
