The catalytic converter on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix is located under the vehicle. To remove it the bolts which connect it to the exhaust manifold must be removed. The bolts which connect it to the other piping will need removal as well. After all mounting hardware is off the converter will come off.

Clogged Catalytic Converter 1995 PontiacI had the same problem with a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am V6 engine so I had a new catalytic converter installed and it still would die out when it was put into drive so the mechanic suggested replacing the fuel filter. After replacing the fuel filter someone suggested checking the fuel injectors because something along those lines caused the initial problem.
02 Sensor? should be before the cat
Check the catalytic converter.
