Simple answer is NO the t56 is the 6spd transmission and used on v-8 90* engine like the Z-28 from same year. the 5spd is a t5 same as everyone uses mustang ect. the 94 camaro has a v-6 60* engine and the 5speed transmission is tilted to fit in the floor without modifying floor of car i believe the tilt is 17* but I know it is tilted as I own a 5spd 94 camaro and have replaced the clutch already.

Find a wrecked z-28 or ss and take the ls1/lt1 out of it. The t56 six speed transmission would be a nice addition as well. You would be adding a hundred horses for around $1500 not a bad idea.

Easiest would be the Richmond/Doug Nash design. Later Tremac/TKO/T56 single rail designs would require more work/fabrication including cutting the floor of the car. Remember the Richmond has a very steep first gear (usually 3.27), but 5th is 1:1 just like a stock four speed. So if you are looking for a more relaxed highway RPM you woul need to change the rear end gearing to something lower numericaly (2.56-3.08), or get the new Richmond 6 speed it had an overdive 6th gear. Definitely avoid the 5 speed used in third gen F bodies it does not have the torque rating to live behind a Pontiac V8. Bonn_Evil get a five speed from a 2000 camaro,use the camaro clutch disk,change the yoke from your gto drive shaft to the one from the 2000 camaro and you may have to shorten your gto drive shaft you should be ok, you may have to have your speed ometer recalibrated. Rebuttal from Bonn_Evil The 5 speed from the 4th gen F bodies is strong enough, however it has other problems in a older chassis. 1)Early model t-5 & t56 transmissions bolted to the bellhousing at a 18 degree angle, no bell housing is available for a Pontiac V8 to adapt one. Later t-56s have a longer input shaft that is too long for the traditional Pontiac V8 bell housing. Shorter ones are available from the aftermarket. $$$ 2)The trans tunnel will need cut (alot) in the shifter area. (Lowers the value of you car) 3)The shifter will be too far to the rear of the vehicle. (3-4 inches, so you can't use your factory console) 4)The transmission crossover will need to be fabricated and moved back about 3-4 inches. 5)The t56 is five inches longer than a muncie! You WILL have to shorten your drive shaft. No maybe about it. 6)The t56 all used factory hydralic clutch cylinders. Your GTO mechanical will not work. There are aftermarket solutions such as D&D. (more$$$) 7)"you may have to have your speed ometer recalibrated." Yea try to get the electronic pulse generator on the t56 to turn your speedometer cable. Stock GTO gear won't work. Again aftermarket has solutions if you have the money. Do yourself a favor and get a Richmond 5 or the new overdrive 6 speed, it is very close to a bolt in and costs less.
