Not until the coolant temperature rises to a very high level or even boils over. When the water pump goes bad it usually (but not always!) starts making squeeling or rumbling noises. Next they will start leaking and THAT is what causes engine damage when the coolant drains out. If the old pump isn't leaking, making noise, or wobbling there is nothing wrong with it.
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.
Yes, water can cause a misfire, which will cause the check engine light to flash.
Not likely. The check engine light comes on for failures that raise the emissions of the vehicle.
Possibly, see related questions for more info about the check engine light.
The check engine light on the Honda Pilot is an indicator that there may be a problem with the engine. This could be minor such as air or water in the gas tank or could be an indicator of something more serious.
I believe so.
Replacing the water pump will not cause the check engine light to come on. Either it is a coincidence or you have accidentally disconnected a wire or damaged a sensor somehow.

Just had the same problem on my Grand Am. It was the water pump.
First thing you should do is check oil level and radiator and believe this or not if the radiator holding tanks water level is not up to line this will kick on check engine light.
Might Be Yr running out of oil, or water levels are low.
check antifreeze level
