It did for my civic when my iac valve was disconnected. Car ran like crap also when put back together car ran better and not more smoke, I would get that checked out check your engine codes it will let you know if the iac is starting to malfunction
The 1992 Oldsmobile IAC valve can be found attached to the firewall in the engine compartment. The valve will be on the passenger side of the firewall.
no have , per wiring diagram. There is no IAC motor for this engine and I suspect you have an error code
P1506 IAC OVERSPEED This code denotes that the IAC is causing the motor to have an excessively high idle. This maybe caused by a vacuum leak, the IAC being unplugged or the wiring compromised, the IAC failing to maintain proper idle speed, or the IAC Failing entirely. Typically the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) has failed or is jammed open due to carbon build up inside of the valving, and the solenoid is not able to move the valving properly. First ensure there is no vacuum leaks to the intake plenum. It is quite likely it is indeed the IAC valve, but to rule out an erroneous code (and keep you from paying for a new IAC without need) it is good to make sure none of the vacuum lines are leaking or broken. The rationale behind this is the IAC may be closed entirely and the engine speed is above normal allowances, and since the IAC is closed, the computer may think that the IAC is stuck open. The IAC on this vehicle is dumb and pulsated through electrical pulses. It opens and closes rapidly to maintain engine idle. (hence the 2 wire connection. It is either on or off) To check your IAC valve, locate your valve, it's location may differ on weather or not it is the 3.0L DOHC V6 Duratec, or the 3.0L OHV Vulcan engine. On the Vulcan it is located toward the back of the intake plenum directly adjacent to the throttle body. You can tap it with a hammer (lightly) to see if this assists the problem, if not it's quite likely your IAC is at fault.
The IAC valve is just that...The Idle Air Control Valve. It is responsible for keeping the idle at set parameters. And yes, it can make the engine idle at high RPM.
side of the throttle body to your right facing the engine
To test idle contol on a1997 F250, ensure that the "check engine" light is on, disconnect the IAC valve, and turn the ignition, you can then turn off the ignition and reconnect the IAC valve.

The IAC on this vehicle is dumb and pulsated through electrical pulses. It opens and closes rapidly to maintain engine idle. (Hence the 2 wire connection. It is either on or off and does not have any logic circuitry built into it to determine whether or not it is on or off. The PCM only knows that it is telling the IAC to open or close, but does not know if it is open or closed.) The Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) is located right next to the air intake on the right side of the engine exterior, closer to the EGR Valve (next to the throttle and the air filter assembly: MAF sensor, engine air filter, and hoses). Note: if I'm not mistaken, there are possibly 2 IAC valves installed. They're about $40 + tax per IAC valve.
Most likely it is your IAC valve - Idle air control valve. It comes out with 2 screws to replace.
IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE (IAC)Definition: An electrically-operated valve which allows air to bypass the throttle plate in a fuel injected engine to regulate engine idle speed.IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE (IAC)The (IAC) is located under the Triton Plastic cover in the middle of the engine compartment. Very easy to replace. There are two bolts and one plug.It should only take you around 10 or 15 minutes to change. Buy it new; it doesn't even pay to clean it. It works half the times. But it will go bad eventually…
* Disconnect the electrical connector from the IAC valve * Remove the two IAC valve attaching screws and withdraw the valve from the IAC housing * Clean the sealing surface and the bore of the IAC housing with a shop rag or soft cloth to ensure a good seal * Postion a new O-ring on the housing.Lubricate the O-ring with a light film of the engine oil * Install the IAC valve and tighten the screws securely * The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal
4 wire plug on the back of the throttle body.
