The fuel pump will still try to pump fuel even if the tank is empty.
The fuel pump is located inside of the gas tank. You have to remove the gas tank first and carefully turn the thing that protrudes out of the tank. this is your fuel pump at the top of it.
being that fuel pump is in the gas tank I would remove the fuel line at the filter then turn on ignition being that fuel pump is in the gas tank I would remove the fuel line at the filter then turn on ignition
when you first turn key on, listen at the fuel tank filler. if you still cant hear it listen under car at fuel tank. recycle key every time you listen to hear pump. just turn key to on position,
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank Turn key on-Should have a fuel pressure of 64-85 psi
Turn the ignition on and see if you hear a humming coming from the pump. If it is inside the fuel tank, you can hear it from the back seat.
Probable it is the fuel pump in the front tank. When you change it at the switch listen to see if you can hear the pump working, if not got to remove tank or bed and replace pump.
you will need to drop gas tank then there is a big nut on the fuel pump turn and take out fuel pump
You have to drop the fuel tank, disconnect the fuel lines, turn the hold down ring to loosen lid, lid holds the pump to the tank then pull out fuel pump from within the fuel tank it will be attached to the lid with the fuel lines running through it.
u have to drop the fuel tank, the pump is on top of the fuel tank held in by a big ring u have to turn it court clock wise then the pump ass. will come out.
the fuel pump is located in the tank. to remove it you must remove all lines from tank undo the tank straps drop the tank there is a lock ring that holds the pump in you must turn it to remove it then the pump simple comes out. its fairly easy depending on the amount of rust involved.
If you are lucky, and the fuel pump is still somewhat functional, you can use it to empty the tank by disconnecting the fuel line and directing it into a fuel can. Just turn on the ignition (but do not try to start the engine). If the pump doesn't work at all, then you're pretty much stuck with siphoning the fuel out, either the old fashioned way, or better yet, with a siphon hose with mechanical hand pump (about $15 cdn for cheapies). When my pump failed, I had a 1/2 full tank, and just disconnected and lowered the tank carefully with the aid of a friend, removed the tank and then the fuel pump from it before using a siphon to remove the fuel to make the tank re-installation manageable.
Fuel pump has failed. Will need to be replaced, and it's not cheap, $300+ just for the part. Fuel tank will need to be removed from the vehicle to replace the pump. The pump installed down into the fuel tank from the top fo the tank.
