The Alexiad, a history of the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, was written by his daughter, Anna Komnene, and contains some of her observations of the times of her youth.
Hildegard of Bingen and Julian of Norwich wrote from a religious point of view. Their writings do reveal a good deal about their lives.
