Yes, the alternator provides electrical energy to keep the battery charged. If the alternator isn't functioning, the battery will discharge and there will be insufficient electrical energy to operate the ignition and other electrical components. Understand that a battery is only an electrical STORAGE device. Electrical energy is produced by the alternator. The function of the battery is to provide electrical energy for NEXT time you want to start the engine. Once the engine is started, the alternator must take care of all electrical requirements of the vehicle as well as for providing enough additional electrical energy to replace electrical energy to the battery that was last used when the engine was started.
If it is running on the battery only then that means the alternator is not charging the battery.
Start the truck then disconnect the battery if it's still running the alternator is good
Your alternator is not recharging the battery and is defective.
if your truck is running and you disconect the batery and the truck dies then its the alt
alternator and od solonoid
With the car or truck running disconnect only the positive side of the battery ... if it stays running that means the alternator is good if it dies then it needs replacing
have the alternator tested or replaced
As long as the alternator works and your charging system is correct, the new battery will start your truck and keep it running.
bad alternator ? its not charging the battery
The Alternator is not putting out enough voltage. If you recently replaced the alternator with a "new" remanufactured alternator that one could be bad to your truck somewhere to get it tested.
Very likely an alternator problem; if the alt is not working soon the battery would be drained and the truck would shut off.
If the donor vehicle is running and has a properly functioning alternator, no.
