Would he, good question. Maybe he can because this married man love his ex mistress, but he doesn't have that right. He knew that he was married when he approach her before the affair, so what ever his ex mistress was doing, he doesn't have any say on that. He also ruin her life and no one put a gun in his head to have an affair with the other woman. It's all his, no one else.

Some people that do not want to get married give you an engagement ring because they want to show their commitment but may be afraid of the next step, others may give it to you because they think that's what they are suppose to do and believe that you want it but really don't have any long term intentions and unfortunately some give a ring to mark their territory. If you know you are not getting married and are both ok with that then wear the ring but if you want to get married and know that he does not you are going to have to make the choice of staying with this person or moving on. Also, don't wear it all the time if you don't want to - wear it as an occasional piece of jewellery because really it is not an engagement ring if there in fact is no engagement.
