Speaking from personal experience, he would probably stop talking to that mistress and lose passionate feelings for her in a short time-span. But, he would most likely find another(maybe even the same) mistress in a while, due to his lack of feelings for his wife.

From my own personal experience, my husband did the same when I asked him what did his woman have that I don't have, and that's when he told me what he saw in her. The quality of this other woman was the one that the man I married didn't have no problem being open to her.
