An oil filter filters out any dirt and pieces of junk that might be floating around in your oil. From time to time, tiny metal shavings do find their way in there, and if you get metal rubbing on metal at 2500 RPM, well, then you can't be surprised if something bad happens. An oil filter is about 4 bucks, and if you don't change it when you change your oil (every 3000 miles please) bad things will happen. An oil filter, if you don't change it for 10 years, will clog, and the pressure in there will pretty much have torn it apart anyway.

Advantages of oil filter?

As your engine runs, microscopic pieces of metal get worn from inside the engine. The filter removes these particles so they don't cause further damage to the engine.

Can a oil change where the person forgot to remove old oil gasket and I had leak and engine knock cause timing belt to break and perm engine damage?

if I understand your ? can not changing an old oil filter gasket casue damage to your engine NO only if it leaked out all the oil other wise no. If the filter change was the cause of the leak and you lost enough oil for the engine to start clattering, yes, it caused the permanent engine damage.

What damage does a dirty air filter cause?

A dirty air filter by itself, will not cause any damage to the engine. However, it is not wise to operate a car with a dirty air filter (or any dirty filter, for that matter), because the performance of the engine will be affected, and the risk to cause it serious damage is greatly enhanced. An internal combustion engine is basically an air-burning device. The air-fuel mix relation in four cycles gasoline engines is around 14 to 1. It means that the engine requires 14 parts of air for each part of gasoline it burns in order to generate power. An air filter's function is to clean the air before it gets into the engine's fuel injection system, by retaining dust and other particles contained in air. When an air filter gets clogged by dust and debris, air supply to the engine is reduced. This causes poor performance, high fuel consumption and eventually will cause damage to the engine.

What is the use of air filter in bikes?

their basic function is to prevent dust from entering the engine, which could cause serious damage to the performance of the bike.

No - a small amount will not damage the engine, though may cause it to run badly. However, a larger amount can cause serious damage, and the tank and engine should be drained.
