Where is the thermostat on a 1998 Grand Prix SE located?

The thermostat on a 1998 Grand Prix can be located by following the radiator hose (at top on the driver side) to the engine. The housing that the hose is clamped to has the thermostat in it. Just remove the housing (two bolts) and you will see the thermostat. Its a tight spot but if you remove the air filter and remove it from the throttle also, then you can access the thermostat housing. Removing the bolts from the thermostat housing can only be done in small increments(short turns). I think its a 10mm wrench or 13mm can't remember but its metric somewhere in that range and only a wrench will work. Its impossible to get a socket wrench in there. Have patience and keep turning. CAUTION CAUTION! (Also make note to how the thermostat sits in the housing, because if you sit the thermostat in the housing wrong you will not be able to put the housing back in position. It will be confusing if the thermostat is in wrong. It just won't fit back in place like that.)

Where is the thermostat for a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire?

On the passenger side of the car, trace the hose from the bottom of the radiator upwards. This hose is tapped by another hose from the coolant surge tank. Follow the hose towards the engine block. The thermostat is located at the end of this hose. There are two small screws that hold the thermostat housing to the larger housing. Apply penetrating oil to these screws if they are tight. Remember to drain the radiator of coolant before removing the thermostat housing. There is no gasket between the thermostat housing and the larger housing. When remounting the housing, use the paste that is specifically manufactured for this purpose. It is sold at any auto supply store. Remember which direction the spring of the thermostat points before you remove it.

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1991 Mazda Protege?

go to an auto parts store and buy a manual for your car, they're about $15. under the distributor is the thermostat housing, take that off, be careful not to break the sensor attached to the housing. after you take off the housing pop out the thermostat(may take a screwdriver to do so), take a razorblade or scraper and clean old gasket off, do not use sand paper or grinding wheel, put gasket maker/hi-temp silicone on both side let skim then bolt the housing back not tightening to tight. add antifreeze and you're ready to go, check a couple times after driving to see if there are any leaks, if not then you're good to go.

How do you replace the thermostat on a 2004 jeep wrangler?

Not sure which engine you have, but for the 4.0 just drain the system, unbolt the thermostat housing from the engine ( right where the upper radiator hose meets the motor ) remove the old thermostat ( pay attention to how it is positioned ) remove all old gasket material, apply water resistant rtv to both sides of new gasket, install new thermostat, install thermostat housing, bolt on tight.

My 3.8L 2000 impala my heater isn't working can anyone help?

I had the same problem, cured it with a new thermostat! If you are mildly handy you can replace it yourself. Thermostats usually cost less than $10-$15 (make sure to get the gasket with it). To find the thermostat housing follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. The housing that the hose is connected to is the housing. It's held on with 2 metric bolts, you will probably need a deep socket, I think there is a pin on the top of one bolt. If you move quickly you can replace the thermostat with out drain the radiator some (make sure the new gasket is in place prior to starting). Once the new thermostat is in place and the housing is tight you will need to start the engine and let it warm up. While it's warming up add some antifreeze mix to the overflow container to replace what you lost. Once the engine is warm, excess air needs to be bleed off. To do that open the brass valve on the thermostat housing a bit. Once antifreeze starts coming out close it. I generally wait a couple of minutes and repeat the procedure. To you lurkers who are in the know, did I leave anything out?

How do you remove the thermostat from a '89 Silverado with a 350?

Unhook the top radiator hose from the engine thermostat housing. Now take the 2 bolts out of the housing that the hose was hooked to, and take the thermostat out.Scrape the old gasket off of engine and housing. Install new thermostat with springdown, put gasket on engine install housing and both bolts. NOTE- Be sure that you tighten both bolts EVENLY AND A LITTLE AT A TIME UNTILL TIGHT. Now installhose and fill with coolant. Before you start the job MAKE SURE ENGINE IS COLD and you will need to draincoolant first. If it seaps coolant around the housing, then tighten the 2 bolts more.

Location of thermostat on a 2002 Chevrolet venture?

Hi, The thermostat is located on the right side of the engine, as you look at the engine from the front of the van. If you follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, you will find it attached to the thermostat housing. That is where the thermostat is mounted. These thermostats are a real pain to change because of the tight space under the hood, and the fact that a cross-over pipe has to be removed to get to the bolts in the housing. Not a fun job at all. Good Luck, Greg

Changing the Thermostat on a 1989 - 1995 Lebaron V6 3.0ltrBUY..A NEW THERMOSTAT FOR THE CAR 1STANTIFREEZEGASKET SEALERFollow the top hose from the top left of the radiator back to the engine block, where the hose ends attached to a metalic dome (thermostsat housing), held inplace by a pair of 3/8 or 10mm bolts. Remove bolts and take em out of the holes (stops them flying off into the engine in a place where you cant get them back). Lift off the thermostat housing and remove old thermostat after checking which way it sits in place.Use a clean rag to fill hole while you clean away any residual gasket debris. Fit new thermostat, Use gasket seal on the new supplied gasket replace housing.. and bolt down tight.. refill system with recommended antifreeze and run the engine and check for leaks and top up levels as required..DIFFICULTY: Low 20 mins max
