Ive replaced the thermostat water pump and flushed the radiator on my 96 Chevy lumina and now it jumps from 125 to 260 while im driving It also overheats while im driving.?

You may have the problem of your intake manifold gaskets. They are a problems on the lumina. I had to have mine replaced due to the same thing. Also check if your coolant is mixing with your oil if it is. Than it is definitally your intake manifold gasket.

What are the possiblie reasons for water mixing with the eng oil on 1996 Monte Carlo?

Sounds like a head gasket might be going out. You will get more answers if you ask the same question for the engine in the car instead of the car. If it is a 5.7 liter, this is a common problem for '90's 350's. The intake manifold gaskets are defective and coolant leaks into the lifter galley down into the pan. You can do a compression check, but, unless the engine has experienced a bad overheating scenario, the head gaskets in GM small blocks don't just go bad by themselves. It's a great, legendary engine that has been screwed up by bean counters trying to save a little money on intake manifold gaskets.

What does a Chevy map sensor do?

The MAP sensor monitors the Manifold (Intake) Absolute Pressure, or the pressure inside the intake manifold to make sure the computer is mixing the right amount of air / fuel mixture for the best combustion combination.

Does the impala 2002 engine have gasket problems?

The GM 3100 and/or 3400 series engines have had a major problem with intake manifold gaskets for years. GM incorporated a hard plastic gasket with rubbers on it to seal the manifold. While these gaskets worked ok for awhile, as temperature differences in your engine takes place, i.e. running the car, shutting the car off, etc., the rubber material seperates from the plastic and the gasket fails. Normally you will not experience an external leak. Check your engine oil - if it looks like chocolate milk or if there is alot of milky buildup on the bottom side of your oil filler cap then you probably have antifreeze mixing with your engine oil. It is best to not drive your vehicle until you get this situation fixed. Also note that about 1 out of 10 vehicles that exhibit this condition may also need to have the cylinder head gaskets replaced - this is normally the case when the intake manifold is removed and the original gaskets do not look too bad.

Can there be an antifreeze leak from the intake manifold but not any antifreeze mixed in with the engine oil?

there can be a leak from the intake manifold without any antifreeze mixing with your oil, i personally experienced this problem on a 1986 sentra after a changed the head gasket, i apparently had scaped a little to hard on the intake when cleaning it for new gaskets. if its a small leak it would probably just be evaporating in the combustion chamber, but it can and probably will become a problem that needs attention quickly. have a trusted mechanic take a look at it as soon as possible, maybe have them do a compression check to see if there are any possible leaks. well good luck

Will mixing different antifreezes make your intake gasket leak on a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer?

In short, Yes. Chevy made their gaskets a certain way to work with their coolants. Others tend to corrode the gasket prematurely.

I keep losing antifreeze no leaks to be found oil looks good and no sign of it leaking on the floor what next 2000 impala?

If it is not leaking externally then it is leaking internally. The intake manifold gaskets are known to leak coolant into the engine on that vehicle. Have a trusted mechanic diagnose the problem soon because coolant mixing with engine (even in small amounts) oil will cause big trouble down the road.

Your 1993 El Dorado blew a hole in the air mixing aluminum cast housing where the fuel injectors are?

It blew a hole in the intake manifold? You probably broke a pushrod. Get this engine to a mechanic or engine rebuilder.

What are the symptoms of a bad intake manifold?

The most likely evidence is an oil leak which can run on to the manifold creating smoke, depending on how bad it is. If the gaskets are bad the covers can't be tightened down suficiently to create a oil tight seal.

I have a 1996 dodge caravan and the antifreeze and motor oil seems to be mixing does anyone know what it could be?

It sounds like you have a leaking intake manifold or head gasket. This needs to be repaired soon because the antifreeze will wear out the engine bearings very prematurely.

Is it safe to drive a vehicle that has antifreeze mixing with oil?

NO NO NO you can i guess but it will ruin your engine. You either have a cracked block or blown head gasket i would guess. Moisture in the engine will destroy it. In addition to a headgasket or cracked block (unlikely), would be cracked cylinder head, intake manifold gasket or manifold. What kind of car, what size engine? 1999 CADILLAC DEVILLE

What causes frothing in a radiator when the car is running?

The head gasket is gone or the block/head is cracked. Water is mixing with oil. If you remove the valve cover and the head or the intake manifold you may notice a fluid of a deep battleship gray color. This is due to grinding metal fillament mixing with the water and lubricant due to failed lubrication because chances are that you are losing oil if the block is cracked and engine coolant is mixing with water and oil or the head gasket, or the manifold seal is broken and may need to be replaced. An oil leak doesn't always mean that the block is cracked-- your problem could just be a broken head or manifold gasket. This is easy enough to replace but requires extensive dismantling of the top of the motor.
