I would put it in 'Colonial America', 'Virgina', and 'History'.
If you count Roanoke as the first colony, then, it would be Jamestown. If you count Jamestown as the first, then it would be Plymouth.
Jamestown was England's first settlement in what would become Virginia.

When the first people landed in Colonial Jamestown they would have found lots of trees. The land was unsettled and had to be cleared before they could start to build homes and a city.
The term "colonial army" is a noun. The plural form would be colonial armies.

When India was a colony of Britain, they would be colonial military personnel if they were in the Indian Army (Navy, etc.). When America was a colony of Britain, Americans were "Colonial Soldiers" under the Crown.
Roanoke Colony, founded by Sir Walter Raleigh, preceded Jamestown but it disappeared. Had it survived it would have been the first English colony.
