Therefore, if the school or government learns of a conviction after the financial aid is disbursed, it might, depending on the crime, require repayment before the student is eligible to receive more. However, the Second Chance Actof 2008 provides hundreds of milllions of dollars in financial aid for ex-felons, and Pell Grants are also available. Convicted felons can apply for these funds through the U.S. Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance.
