Just ask him! The least they can say is no. It might be a little awkward, but maybe after a week, let them know that you are no longer interested, even if you are still. Hopefully you will still be able to stay friends!
If you don't want to talk to him, tell one of his friends, and have him talk to him. Hopefully, he won't tell him, and you will be able to find out if he likes you or not.
