Are you crazy? Since when is a credit card an asset? It's a debt if there is a balance, and you are responsible for payments on it as much as the primary holder. You also cannot "file bankruptcy for a car loan." You have to list all debts, and treat all creditors the same. You don't get to pick and choose which creditors to include.

I go along with the above...except I'm certain your crazy...don't need to ask!

And you are the "primary for someone else". Your a "user" on a a card, so it isn't yours...but you would want to use it to pay off your debts? Please tel me your just putting words together you heard someplace....because crazy people make more sense....or have more.

Can someone put an old debt back on your credit report after your bankruptcy has been filed?

The whole point of bankruptcy is that at the point of insolvency all assets transfer to the assignee, and all debts likewise. So debts are cancelled by the bankruptcy, the available assets being all there is to claim against.

Are you safe from creditors if you buy the assets of someone in bankruptcy without knowing they are bankrupt?

No, you are not. When someone files bankruptcy the title to their property is held by the trustee in bankruptcy. The bankrupt cannot sell any property therefore, if they do, the title is not clear. You may lose the property to the creditors if someone tracks it down. You would then be out of the property and any money you paid for it.

In Illinois how do you obtain vehicle title after bankruptcy?

What could you possibly be asking? If the asset was sold during bankruptcy to pay creditors and your debts, its gone. Owned by someone else. That's how your debts get paid. Your assets are used. If there aren't enough assets to liquidate and pay your debts, some of the debts may be forgiven. But not always. Under any circumstances, to get a title to something owned by someone else, you buy it from them. Bankruptcy does not get you things.

Can you file bankruptcy if you own your home?

In principle, yes, but it depends on the equity in your home and how much of it you can exempt, as well as the non-exempt equity in all other assets and how much debt, income and expenses you have.

When you file for bankruptcy does someone come to your house to list all your assets and take all the things you did not list as exempt?

Actually, the laws have changed a bit since the 2005 Bankruptcy law was signed. Instead of the "yard sale" way of valuing your assets, you now have to value your assets at the amount it would cost to replace them today with items in exactly the same condition.
