Try powering the stereo up with jumpers to a power source. If the stereo still won't work with direct power check to see if it might have a anti theft stereo. If no then replace the unit. If it works with jumpers then look for a break in the wire or a bad fuse. Easiest fix in this case would be to run a new wire from the fuse panel, (key on power) to the stereo. These cars are known for stereo problems, my daugher has an 1989 929 and the stereo dies for days and then works if someone turns it off by accident instead of just turning off the volume...

I own a 1993 Mazda 323. I had the same problem with the automatic seatbelts. I found out that the problem is caused by a little round circuit. This circuit is in the middle consol where the seatbelts are stored (I believe it is attached behind the pulley of the seatbelt housing. It looks like Mazda is using some kind of conductive metal which is worn out by time. Since the metal on the circuit is worn, seatbelt safety circuit stays open and causes seatbelt alarm stay on. I just changed the driver's side with the passenger's side and beep went off. However, I would recommend you to contact the Mazda dealar and ask if you can have this part replaced.
If you have the 2004 model of the RX8 this could be due to the starter motor, Mazda themselves have noticed this problem and have created an upgraded starter motor on the RX8 but this dose come at a cost, Hope this helps

I have a 1990 929S. I have never had a problem with the security system, at least not that I'm aware of. However, when I first bought it, the stereo didn't work for about the first month. People kept telling me to take it to the dealership. They wanted $50.00 to deal with it. Out of desparation to keep my hard earned money, I stuck a CD and a casette in at the same time. It has worked fine since.
