Check alternator with a voltmeter
A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running With engine running reading should be approx. 13.8 - 14.2 volts
When our 93 grand prix battery light came on it meant that we needed a new battery. We tested the battery with a volt meter and the battery read 1 volt, it should be 12volts. Still wondering how to reset the battery light?
i need to know if it is alright to drive this car like this Sounds like you left a wire loose, or blew a fuse. If the battery light is on, the alternator is not charging properly and it is not safe to drive.
When this problem came up with my dodge stratus my husband found that a fuse was blown. We changed our battery and it would not start for us either. but as soon as he fixed some wiring and changed the fuse it was fine.

Take it to the car shop and have it tested under a load. Indicator might show blue = good battery but it still might be bad. Changed my battery out, reset the SRS light using the jumper wire method seen on the web and this fixed the problem. SRS light came on due to irregular voltage from bad battery. It was time to change out the battery anyways. Noticed map lights and headlight flickering during idle = bad battery or alternator. SRS light is still off on my car.
Check to see that the belt is tight on the alternator. If it is, check the stator wire it may be loose.
go to a auto parts store like advance auto and have them check your computer to see why it is on. they do this for free. this might give you a idea on why its on. if you havent already.
Reasonable chance of an alternater and/or battery.
Check your alternator, Mine did the exact thing. The Battery light and the !!BRAKE!! Light came on and couldn'y figure it out for the hell of me, did volt tests while running and only had 12.5 volts on the battery. I changed the alternator ($179.99) and got back to the normal 14 or so volts while running and lights shut off. no idea why the brake light was on at all.
this happened with my 94 sentra just before the alternator died... i would take it to a parts store and have them test the battery and alternator.
Has your timing belt been changed? From what I understand, the car automatically turns on the light every 60,000 miles (the recommended interval between timing belt changes). I changed mine well after the light came on (it came on while the previous owner still had it) and the belt was long overdue. Also, when you do change it, you have to manually reset the light.
Replacing the battery should not have triggered the check engine light. The check engine light comes on when there is a problem with the emission system. Saying that, I would drive it for a while to see if the light does go out. If the light does not go out have the ECU scanned to retrieve the trouble code. Then use this code to diagnose the problem.
Changing the battery should have no bearing on the SRS light, and it may just be a coincidence. Regardless, do not attempt to repair the SRS. Working on this system can cause serious injury. Take it to a professional, as something is wrong with the system.
