You changed the timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus it appears to run good but will not idle it starts off at 1000 rpm and slowly drops back to 5-600 rpm a gaseous odor is detected any suggestions?

You more than likely set the timing wrong. Dodge Stratus is a funny car when it comes to timing, the front (intake side) pulley is set one tooth back from the back (exhaust side) pulley. Check that out by getting a Haynes manual from your local auto parts store, but trust me, there very tricky.
