If part of it is made of some sort of rubber material it could possibly be a damper to stop the exhaust rattling or shaking itself loose and breaking.
I found you have to remove the upper intake manifold, to get to two size 15mm bolts on top bracket. Then there are three bolts on the bottom of bracket. You will have to lift and support front of the car. Bolts must be taken off from bottom. Then the bracket slide towards passenger side of car.
The seats on a 1992 Acura Vigor use bracket which are found underneath and behind them. Loosen the bracket bolts to release the seats Pull them off and replace them.
If it is like my 94 town and country 3.8, the best thing to do is remove the bracket und take it off the top. One book suggest that you remove thetop and bottom bolts to remove it from the bracket, then drop the alternator down and remove it by pulling it between the firewall and from crossmember. I found this impossible, since the exhaust pipe did not allow enough room. My car sat for 2 weeks till I decided to remove the entire bracket. It was not as hard as I thought it would be.
The starter is located on the back side of the engine. The two mount bolts go through the transmission into the starter. There is a bracket on the back side of the engine which I found easier to remove first and then undo the starter.
Easiest way I found was to dismount the tank. First unscrew the 4 bolts that hold the black bracket to the frame ( this is right under your seat). Then unscrew all bolts that hold the tank, so you can have this whole thing able to move freely (tank and bracket). You dont have to completely take off the tank and dismount fuel lines etc. Just have somebody lift it and then you will have enough space to take out the battery.

Good luck witht the top 10mm bolt, it snapped for me. Good site. Hugh (Oxford)
On Passenger's side, found top one and a front one near the compressor. Jacked engine to release pressure. There must be others as it has not loosened. It is unclear below where the bracket stops. Any ideas ?
