They are probably the kind that have the battery backup (just in case the power goes out). The battery likely needs to be changed.

Why do smoke detectors make a beeping noise when the electric goes off they are not hooked to any electric?

When the electricity goes out, a smoke detector may make a final beep as it's capacitor is discharged, as a warning. If the smoke detector has a battery backup, some detectors will beep just to let you know the power is off, and some other units will only beep when the power is off AND the battery is low. Usually there is a legend on the back of the unit that will tell you what the different beeps mean.

What functions does a gas detector perform?

Gasntools lpg gas detector works by monitoring different gas levels in the air. These devices are generally battery operated and used for safety. Once they detect a higher than normal concentration of gas in the air, they warn people in the location through a series of really hard to miss audible beeps.

What does one single loud beep coming from the smoke detector mean?

Hey there, I had this problem, do you live in a apartment block? If so, it is most likely connected to a main system, but the individual alarms still have 9v batteries in them to protect against power cuts, this battery is running low and needs replacing Or you can do what I did and just rip them off the ceiling in anger.
