theres no way you can change the head gaskets without taking off the intake manifold, its not hard to do. plus if your going to change the head gaskets it would only be smart to change the intake gaskets also.
Answerand if your talking about the exhaust manifold, you did'NT specify, I'm sure you can but it will be no fun at all, plus u should change exhaust gaskets if your going to do all that work anyways so you don't have to worry about them down the road.no.

The AC clutch cannot be replaced without physically removing the compressor on a 1997 Mercury Sable. The compressor and magnetic plate must be removed before you can access the clutch.
Usually the gaskets make a strong seal and will continue to hold the intake manifold even after all of the bolts have been removed. Be REALLY certain that all fasteners have been removed then gently pry the intake manifold off.AnswerI found the answer to my question. The two fuel lines must be removed from the top of the intake. The part where the fuel lines enter the top of the intake is mounted on the inside of the bottom intake. the top intake cannot be separated from the bottom intake without first disconnecting and removing these fuel lines. The good news is that Phel-Pro sends all the gaskets you need in the kit, including the replacement o-rings for the fuel rail.
it's on the intake manifold tucked in between the engine block and manifold itself, immediately to the left of the throttle body looking from the front of the car. It's a dog to get it's retaining bolts out without removing the manifold but can be done.
it does not need to be removed.
