You have a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 and it hesitates upon take off sometimes. Its been in to Mazda many time but they can't figure it out can anyone help?

What you are Experiencing is known as a "Flat-spot". It is the result of a fuel air mixture that is too lean, meaning that it isn't getting enough fuel with the air. Had the same thing in the shop the other day on a different year car. Have Mazda richen the fuel to air ratio and the problem should go away.

AnswerI have seen a few with the same problems.the air flow metre was reading within specs, runs rough at idle and hesitates sometimes. we replaced the air flow metre and it fixed the problem. see if they can use one off another car to test it. im a recent ex Mazda mechanic AnswerI have a 2002 P5, and it occasionally hesitates when beginning acceleration. that is a great ? and hard figure out because it could be 1 of many reasons. i reacently had this happen to me and it took mechanics 2 months to figure it out imagine that! it was a stopped up radiator. but in addition to that it could've been blown head gasket, a fuse, a sensor, water pump, plugged heater core for anyone out there that has a 97 protege if it is overheating DO NOT drive it if it's running more than 20 degrees above normal temp. the darn thing has plastic rings. good luck
