I had the same readout on my 1999 E320 using an OBD2 code reader. The Mercedes dealer use a scan tool that is somewhat different; as it indicates right and left side of car; rather than bank 1 or bank 2. The way I figured it all out was to disconnect one of the O2 sensors that were easily accessible under the hood by unplugging the connector and then driving the car for a few minutes. I took a new scan reading and it indicated that the circuit for the O2 sensor that I had disconnected, was not functioning.... since I knew where that sensor was located; it was easy to determine the location of O2 sensor at bank 1 position2. The sensor you need to replace is located on the passenger side of the car , near the catalytic converter. it is underneath the vehicle and can be easily removed using a 22 mm wrench.
