most likely mozelator valve
Can you use park, neutral, or reverse? If so then your tranny is in limp mode. The only gears that work are 2nd and reverse. Check the cable to your tranny and see if it is plugged all the way in. If it is then you have other electrical problems and need to have your truck looked at. I'm not sure if an 89 still has a vacuum modulator on it or not. If the vacuum line to it is off it will only shift after over revving it. Can you shift it manually? Start in low and shift at the proper RPM?
I had the same problem with my '92 camaro 3.1 V6. Take your car to a transmission specialist, and he can throw a diagnostic pad on it. On mine, my entire transmission and torque converter were fried. Cost me $1000.
Theres no pressure in the transmission yet. Once you start the engine it will be normal
This problem could be the linkage in the transmission. The transmission could also be going out and would need replaced.
YOU MUST PULL OFF THE PLASTIC PEICE TO THE LEFT OF THE SHIFTER THAT SAIS SHIFTLOCK! THEN USE A PEN OR SOMETHING THAT WILL FIT TO PUSH DOWN THE BUTTON SO THAT YOU CAN SHIFT THE TRANNY. THE TRANNY IS ELECTRONIC SO YOU NEED BATTERY TO TAKE IT OUT OF PARK.
If the tracker is a "standard shift" not automatic transmission. You could pop start the engine by putting the car in 1st gear, with the clutch pedal down and the ignition on. Roll the car and once car is rolling release clutch pedal. Vehicle should start, hope this is what you ment by "manually".
Please tell us what you want to start
In poetry, the start of a new stanza often signals a shift in theme, tone, or subject matter. It can create emphasis, provide a pause for reflection, or introduce a new idea or image. The structure of stanzas can help organize thoughts and emotions, guiding the reader through the poem.
tranny tramp
I depends on the trasnmission it has. Some have shift selinoids they are probably bad. There are some shops that will check without charge, but either way you will either have to have it rebuilt ar purchase another one. Check the fluid level and change the filter and fluid that might help.
Sounds like you need a tranny. Without knowing what year and make of car I would say the generic answer is your tranny is trying to shift into 2 ranges at the same time causing it to lock up internally and shutting off your engine (probably very violently). Another possibility (if you have a lock up torque converter) is that your lock up converter is applying when you shift into reverse. Get a pro to diagnose it.
My suggestion would be to disconnect the battery, pull the entire steering column and replace it with a used one. Your trany can be shifted manually by crawling under the car and moving the shift lever by hand for now. It probably won't start because the shifter is in gear so moving it to the neutural position will probably get it to start. Try stuffing a screwdriver into the lock cylinder and see if you can turn it till you get a column.
