I have a 98 mystique, and when the check engine light comes on, I simply disconnect the positive battery terminal for a couple of minutes. When I replace it, the check engine light is cleared. It resets the computer.
Perform a functional test with an automobile scanner is the easiest way.

Reading diagnostic codes is easy. The driver plugs the reader/scanner into the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and the scanner/reader will give a code if there is a problem, and tell them the type of problem.
It is right under the dashboard under the steering wheel.
You need a scanner. Go to autozone/advanced auto and you can borrow a scanner from them.
Any OBD2 scanner will work.
connect a diagnostic scanner and see what fuel percentage is showing.
I would check your battery to make sure it is holding a good charge. If it is getting weak, it may not let you retrieve any codes. Try hooking a charger to it 15 minutes before plugging the scanner in. I hope your ECM is ok. Good luck ......
It should be on the driver's side of the dash near the bottom. It might have a cover over it.
