Bad starter solinoid replace it and the starter!

User Avatar

It could either be a starter gone bad or it could be a bad cylinoid. If the starter motor does not spin that would cause the engine not to turn over. The best thing is to buy the cylinoid first then if that does not work replace the starter motor. It never hurts to replace both.

It depends on what is wrong - if the starter-motor does not operate it is probably a flat battery (charge it), starter relay (replace it) or starter motor (replace it) - always check for corrosion / bad earths. If the starter-motor is operating but the engine isn't firing it could be any number of things - but for a motor to run it must have: compression, fuel & ignition. The easy answer if your bike does not start is to get in touch with a recovery organisation or motorcycle dealer (such as ourselves: http://www.aprilia-merseyside.com )

Sometimes; if you operated the vehicle for some time with low voltage it could destroy your starter. Low voltage is the worst enemy of a starter motor.

Assuming the starter motor spins but doesn't engage to turn engine over to start you could have a bad starter drive which is part of the starter assembly or possibly damaged/missing teeth on flywheel ring gear. Depending on year and model vehicle, some starters you can replace just the starter drive otherwise you need to replace the whole starter.

Start by removing the battery connection and then locate the starter near the ignition. Locate the starter between the transaxle and the engine. Unplug the wires and unwrench the starter. Replace with the new one.

Hi, Disconnet the battery cables from the battery. Disconnest the battery cable from the back of the Starter motor, and the other red wire., then undo the two bolts holding the starter motor in place one on top and one below the starter motor., withdraw the starter motor from the motor and remove from the car, Installation is the reverse of the dissassembly instructions. Hope this helps

Solenoid could be installed incorrectly. Could be electrical connection on the solenoid. Did you re-connect the battery? Could be a bad starter motor...or a stuck starter motor. Sometimes a light tap or two on the starter motor (not the solenoid) with a hammer will free it up.

Might try putting an air gun on the crank pulley nut but not recommended. Best to replace the starter motor and do it right
