You like him but why does he only like you as a friend?

Because he values your friendship more and doesn't want to lose it or that he isn't attracted to you in that way. Either way if he doesn't like you then you shouldn't waste your thoughts or feeling on him. You will get hurt and you will also lose at lot of time. In the meantime the right guy could come along and you might miss him. The painful part of falling in love with someone is that often that person does not share your feelings. If you are fortunate enough to love someone who thinks of you as a friend, treasure that. Do nothing to jeopardize it. Doing so will be one of the greatest regrets of your life. Loving someone is never a wasted thought or feeling; it is a gift. It can be very painful to feel so strongly for someone who does not feel likewise, and it can be difficult to be near him, but ask yourself, "Is it harder to have the one I love in my life, or would it be harder to never see him, hear himvoice, have him near me again?" How you answer that question will lead you to what you should do. It may not be easy, you may regret it, but how much less will your regret be than if you did the other and hurt that person, and yourself?

Does he like someone else? If he does, then just let him like that other person. If it doesn't work out with you, clearly it wasn't meant to be. If he doesn't like someone else, then start making a conversation with him. You'll be able to tell by the way he acts if he likes you or not. If he's told you that he likes you as a friend, maybe he really does OR maybe he's just embarrassed to tell you how he really feels about you. But remember, true love should never be hidden.
