It is possible that the heater core or the water hoses going to it are leaking. Usually the smell is strongest inside the cab of your truck. Look under the dash on the passenger side. If you find wet carpet, look up from there to trace the leak. Check repair manuals to find out how involved this job is, for some vehicles it may be more than you want to attempt, especially if the dash needs to be removed. The heater core is relatively cheap, as far as parts go, by the way. Another symptom of a leak in the heater core or hoses is excessive fogging of your windshield when you try to defrost it.
