All rotaries smoke in one way or another. By nature the engine is designed to burn oil to keep itself lubricated, so dont panic to see a little white or blue smoke when the engine is warming up.
However if you see smoke when the car is under heavy usage (racing, highway, towing something) then you may have the begining of a blown engine. it is repairable but you must do it soon to minimize the damage.
