Could be a loose ground wire
The odometer on a 96 Ford Explorer is tied into the speedometer. If the speedometer is working then there is a gear problem inside of the speedometer causing the odometer to not work.
To repair the speedometer on the 2003 Suburban, first check to see what is causing the malfunction. You might need to replace a fuse or even the cable.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located on the transmission. If the speedometer is not working, it is rarely the VSS causing the problem. I would first check fuses and the ECU

There are several things that one needs to take into consideration when switching from 17 to 26 inch wheels. The biggest thing to understand is that making this switch will have an affect on the speedometer by causing the speedometer to not have an accurate reading of your speed.
Stepper motor for speedometer has a broken gear in it, causing unpredictable operation. If the odometer is still working, then the speed sensor is OK. Instrument cluster needs repair.
I do not know, please answer this question for me.......anybody.
I have a problem with my 2 door Toyota rav4 2002 fuel gauge. it reads empty when in fact it is partly full. When filled up at pumps it then reads only half full. What can I do to fix this.
First check the fuse for the 2003 Cavalier gauge. Next check the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank to insure that its working properly. Check the gauge next, then the wiring for the system. One of these units is causing your gauge to not work.
They have to see what is causing this problem. And they will try to fix it.
Is your speedometer not working? If your abs light or tracs light is on it may be the brake control module causing your speedo not to work.
It is the sway bar bushings.
