Pull back the trunk carpet/mat on theleft side near the tailight and you will find a reset switch to the fuel pump. This may be your problem. It can get shorted out by moisture leaking in from around the large rear window seal. Bypass this switch and see if your car will start.

According to one of Fords websites : A 1990 Ford Probe , 2.2L four cylinder engine has the spark plugs gapped at : ( .044 inch )
The 1991 Ford Probe spark ignition module can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The ignition module will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
www . motorcraft . com ( no spaces ) shows ( .044 inch ) spark plug gap for the 4 cylinder and V6 engines in a 1997 Ford Probe
Check you coil. Should have 12v on primary side with ignition switch in on position.

there is no such thing as a 1998 Ford Probe. If there was, it would probably still be located next to the stock airbox. follow the spark plug wires.
distributor is likely bad
