This sounds like a simple answer, but it may be the key. I have a a '97 Aurora and the key stopped working. It wouldn't crank or anything. I used the other key I had, and it started right up. I then took the "non-working" key and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol a little (with a paper towel... NOT directly in the alcohol), and it then worked. On and off this would happen over the winter.
