Check to make sure that your automatic Transmission Fluid is filled to the appropriate level. This may not be the problem but it is the first thing you should check. If the fluid coupling in your van (basically the clutch of an automatic) doesn't have fluid in it, no power will be transfered. For more info, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid_coupling.
I don't like the way that transmission whines.
Lose some weight then....................fatty
mine whines a different noise in every gear, but it will not whine when i push in the clutch, so i changed my slave cylinder and clutch and the whining noise stopped.
Check fluid level Could be a bad pump inside the transmission
i could tell when i press on the gas and it just whines up then as you let of the gas slightly the car will then slip into the next gear.

Change the fluid an filter. If it still whines, seek out professional help.

The problem may be that the transmission is beginning to wear out. Another possibility is that you are low on transmission fluid, which can be easily checked. If your fluid levels are fine, the transmission needs servicing.
A yammerer is someone who complains or whines.
