Your 2001 Silverado's gas gauge goes to E and wobbles and the low fuel light comes on even when there's a half to a fuel tank of gas any ideas?

Your gas float has a crack in it gas is getting into the float and it weights down the float so the computer thinks your tank is low on fuel. think of your gas float like float in the toilet bowl....if the float in the toilet bowl has a crack in it. it will stay at the bottom of the tank..same thing with your gas float..itstays at the bottom of the gas tank. Chevy Dealer has the float for $155.

Also, had this problem with my '01 Silverado and read about it in other blogs. Recommendations were to add Techron Fuel System Cleaner for $11 to the gas tank. After a few days the fuel tank sensor started working again. Techron cleans the sulphur off the sensor, as advertised, allowing it to pickup an electrical signal and eliminating false or no readings and also shuts off the low fuel light. Worked for me even though I bought a new sensor to install in the tank if this didn't work but it did. Cheap easy fix so far!
