If the check engine light is flashing that means an engine cylinder misfire
has been detected . You can drive it in for repair , just avoid any rapid
acceleration or deceleration because you can damage the catalytic
converter
A flashing check engine light means there is a condition that could cause a catastrophic failure of you catalytic converter. Usually this is caused by a severe miss fire. The computer will react by turning off the injector of the problem cylinder/cylinders
You need to seek a professional. There could be a multitude of problems. You could have a loose part in the engine bay, or you could have an oil problem, or you could have a transmission problem, anything. I would personally say you have sludge in your engine, depends on mileage and how you drive it. Of course I don't own a Focus. Again more reason to seek a professional.
The two are probably related. Take the vehicle to someone who can read the error code and give you a diagnosis.
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Ending or remedy to a problem or could refer to focus on computer monitor.

You can disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and reset the computer. If there are problems still present, the engine light will come back on after a while. Try this first, then if the check engine light persists, there is a problem detected. And that will need the codes scanned. STOP! If the engine light is blinking it means there is damage being done. A steady light means there is a code you need checked. A flashing engine light is really bad. Pull over and get towed to your mechanic.
If you are referring to the Check Engine light it is on because the computer has set a fault code due to a problem with the emissions system.
The little orange engine warning light is an emissions control monitor. When it is illuminated it could mean that your PCV valve needs replacing -or- the MAF sensor needs servicing -or- some other aspect of the emissions system is not functioning within specs.
