Ignition timing, timing belt/chain, distributor cap... who knows without looking at it?
I would check the charging system and the fuel pressure.
The timing marks were probably not set right when the timing chain was changed. This will cause the timing to be off and can result in backfiring and loss of power.
I have a problem. I just bought a used 1995 Kawasaki 220 Bayou. The engine started running a little rough at first. Kept getting worse and then started backfiring through the exhaust. I had the carbeurator rebuilt but still runs rough and backfires. Cranks good and idles good. What could be my problem? Thanks
The engine needs fuel, compression and spark to run. You lost one of those.
It started when texting first began. Texting began and people started doing it while driving. It started whenever texting began.
The year, make and model info would be helpful but a large vacuum leak could do that.
My 93 VR4 has started doing this at 195K miles. It runs fine after this sputtering and occasionally backfiring and even dying. Then you can recrank it and drive all day. I am going to take it in but the bets are that it involves the choke cutting out. The timing is about right. If it were the injectors or filters then it seems that the problem would continue while driving. I am still drining it at present until time to take it in.
I've had that same problem. My first guess would be the alterator. but, save your self the trouble of taking it out by first taking your battery to an auto zone and let them test the cell for you, if your battery cell is bad, it doesnt matter how good your alternator is, it just wont hold a charge, period. if its not the battery, then its definitely the alternator. No idea why those problems would suddenly arise after an oil change, but the problem is definately carb related. I would suggest tweaking your fuel-air mixture screw as it sounds like your bike could be running to lean.

Check your alternator (it charges the battery) If it quits you are running straight off the battery and that won't last long. Also check your belts. If they are loose and slipping your battery won't get carged and your alternator won't work properly
