This is typically caused by coolant in the combustion chamber. This series of engines are known to have intake gasket leaks that leak into the engine, causing this type of issue. This can also be caused by head gasket leaks, but this is more rare. Both situations cause extreme and rapid damage to the engine's internal bearing surfaces. Driven long enough with this type of problem results in a required engine rebuild or replacement. Have the vehicle towed to a repair shop - do not drive it.
