- Well this will make you mad....look on the radiator cap for the psi allowed in the cooling system....if it exceeds that then more than likely you have a blown head gasket. Check your oil to see if it's milky and are you using coolant? If So these are tatle tales signes of a bad head gasket. You can rent a cooling system tester from autozone to see if it is a blown head gasket also......not cheap to fix if so.

If you have replaced the water pump thermostat and heater core and ran water through the radiator but it is still overheating Should you have the radiator pressure tested?
If you have replaced the water pump then flush the radiator with CLR also check to see if the fan is working properly.

The lower radiator hose goes from the bottom of the radiator to the engine block. On the engine side there will be a neck that comes off the block and the radiator hose is attached too it. Inside that neck is the thermostat and it can be replaced as a whole unit (the housing neck) or just the thermostat can be removed and replaced.

The top radiator hose is above the thermostat. If the top radiator hose is hot, the thermostat is opening. The thermostat is not the problem. Perhaps the radiator is clogged up or the water pump is bad. Look elsewhere.
