my 2002 was also stuck in park. if you turn the key one click without turning on the electricity, you can move the shift into neutral and it will work there. on the top of the brake pedal is a little white box with a little black switch on it. Move switch to the left and then turn key on and move switch back to the right two clicks and this will unlock shifter.
95 neon stuck in park what to do ?
If you cannot move the shifter out of the park position then you have a problem with the shifter cable or the brake safety lock. If you can move the shifter to the drive position, and it doesnt go in gear then you are a few quarts low on transmission fluid
shifter is broke. my ranger was the same way. take the shifter off , and the ear on the other end will be broke. simple to fix. jus find another shifter like i did.
Maybe brake shift cable from brake to gear shifter?
If the shifter will not move you have a mechanical or electric issued with the shifter. If the shifter does move you may have low fluid or a failed transmission.
Try to have your Neutral Safety switch checked out or your brake switch, It controls the shifter so you cant put it in gear without pressing the brake
Your Shifter has a safety feature that will only allow you to put your car in gear if you step on the brake. If you blew the fuse it wont let you move the shifter so change the fuse in the fuse box.
Stuck brakes, broken axle shaft, failed transmission....
1) reduce throttle to idle speed 2) move gear shifter to Neutral position 3) move gear shifter to Reverse position.
it happened to me too. look under your owners manual it tells you how to move it out of park. its an electrical problem There us a known issue with a plastic lever in the shifter assembly breaking, Chrysler does sell it separately
Move the car. If the fan belt moves, it's still in gear. Also would be fairly hard to move if in gear.

Two items that might prevent the shifter from moving: # Ignition key lock. If this mechanical part isn't releasing the mechanism to the transmission lever, the shifter will not move. # Brake pedal switch. On some cars, one must depress the brake pedal in order to release the shifter out of Park. Could be a defective switch for that, too.
