i replaced mine, just buy a new one and hammer the old one out, have someone help you do it, you position the hinge they move the door in place
There are replacement hinges for that vehicle but it is quite a job. The original hinges are welded in to the door and pillar. The upper pillar side hinge requires removing the dash assembly. The replacement hinges I bought from the dealer came with instructions as to where to drill.
It got its name because it acts as a hinge, only opening and closing a certain distance. Your elbow is a hinge joint. Think of your elbow as a hinge on a door in your house. The door is your forearm and the door frame is your upper arm/body.
Impact driver and lots of rust penetrant.
Buy a new hinge from the dealership it should cost about 20 - 25 dollars. you will get the upper and lower hinge for either the driver or passenger door. there are only four bolts holding each hinge on . use a marker to mark where the old hinge was then take off the old one. you can do this with the door being ajar but i am told that it is easier with the front fender off. it will probablly take two people to do this. I would also suggest that you purchase the haynes manual for the car they are very useful.
You have to replace the whole hinge assembly, they don't make a hinge pin kit for the Thunderbird.
door hinges attached to door and hinge post
hinge
the upper door hinge is worn letting the door sag. if u are lucky the pin will wear instead of the hinge part on the door. more than likely the hole on the hinge is worn. i had the same problem on a truck of mine. had to put aspot of weld on the hole where it was worn to tighten it up .works fine now
door hinge pin
Use bolts and srews and just screw it down on the hinge
You need to disconnect the wiring to the electric window, locks, etc.,and the door has to be removed. The hardest part I think, is replacing the door spring that rides on the lower hinge; a body shop tool is needed for that.
