There are several reasons why a gas gauge could stop working. A short in the wire from the sending unit could be the culprit. The computer that controls the dashboard gauges could be going out.
Certain Ions have an orange wire in the trunk that can rest on the floor by the battery. There is a connector that corrodes due to moisture in the trunk, causing gauges to become inop Check that connector for corrosion
check your fuses first
vehicle speed sensor may be your problem
check the ground sprats
It could be a problem with your transmission. The same thing just happened to me. It required replacing some of the internal transmission parts, but did not require replacing the entire transmission.
If all of the gauges stopped working there is probably a blown fuse in the right side of the console in the car or out under the hood in that fuse box. If all of the fuses are good then there is likely a bad gauge cluster or a wiring problem.
Bad electrical connections.
Depending which circuit burned out, yes.
Check the fuses.
The stepper motors behind the gauges. Cheaper to get the motors on Ebay than a whole new cluster
what do you mean? did they stop working, work now and then, or what is working and what not? if everthing is dead and the truck runs ok, then ckeck the fuses, but im not sure at all it could be PCM related.
