Check the alternator out put with a voltmeter A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running With engine running reading should be 13.8-14.2 volts XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ANSWER XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX The voltage regulator is built into the alternator. In some cases it is cheaper to replace the alternator.
If your vehicle has a voltometer, the power will be low. If not, you can usually tell by dimming of the headlights or other electrical systems
The best way to find out if your headlights are dimming is to turn your lights on when it's dark at your house and check and see. Also you can go to auto zone and ask if the lights in your car are dimming and what you can do to fix them.
if you are experiencing this with your own car, it may be a drained battery.
More than likely no. It's far more dependant on your vehicle's alternator than the battery. Even so, unless you've installed a large, multi-amp, mega-system, you'll probably be OK with your current battery and alternator. If you can see your headlights "dimming to the beat", then you may need a bigger battery, or simply a capacitor inline with the amp. Caps can cost as much (or more) than a battery(or alternator). So if your headlights are dimming, you'll have to weigh the pros/cons of each to determine your best course of action.
yeah! of course we can automatically dim the headlights with the help of LED's.
your alternator it proboly giving low output. the brushes are worn. you can test it with a multimeter or have it tested at a shop. you are going to have to replace it or you will be calling a tow truck. also test your battery.
It may be the result of a malfunctioning alternator, or simply a loose alternator belt. When the car is idling, the rpm's of the engine are decreased. This means that the battery is putting out energy, but the engine is not moving the alternator fast enough to refill the charge. When the car is moving, the alternator is getting enough power to keep the lights from dimming.
Low alternator output or weak ground connection. Have the alternator checked.
The alternator is on it's way out.
i have had to replace my alternator 3 times due to my system :D but the first sign is usually your interior lights dimming and flickering when you are at a stop. such as your miles before empty gauge that would always catch my attention. and yes this is when your at night and your headlights are on. and you will hear your alternator constantly whining. i got a 250amp aftermarket one with a capacitor which solved my system problem :D
I am not sure if you have a voltmeter in your dash, but one thing you can look for is the gradual dimming of your headlights as you drive along. you will have significant starting issues as your battery is quickly drained. basically, as your alternator fails your battery has no way of recharging itself, and is only able to carry the full electric load for a short period of time
Have the alternator tested. I would suspect one or more of the diodes in the alternator are bad.
