This is tough because the laws vary by state so you really have to your own research. I will say; however, that if your husband used that card for "family use", i.e.: food, bills, etc. then you can be held liable. Also, if you ever signed a credit card receipt then you can be found liable because you are then deemed to have implied authorization.
You need to open your own account.
No.
No because the original company has 'sold' the debt to the credit company or in other words the credit company has bought the debt account from the original company for less than what you owe. That is why credit companies keep chasing you to pay them.
Not if you are smart about it. You do not have to pay his debts through his insurance policy. Inheritance may be another thing. The credit company could put a lien on the estate. The insurance policy is NOT the estate. Y-THINK-Y
Did the car get repossessed? This I believe, would best be addressed by the person/entity who has the lien on the car (the bank, the credit company, etc).
Debts of the spouse are considered to have benefited both of them. He can be held responsible for the debts.
if you are a joint user(you signed papers) then NOPE you're just as responsible. If you are an authorized user that may be different ans something to check into.
In general if the card was used after the person died, the user is responsible for the debt. In some cases the person using the card could possibly be face fraud charges. The laws of the state in which the deceased resided governs the penalties and/or responsibilities of said action.
I'm not 100% sure but the way I understand the law it should not end up on your credit report just because you are an authorized user. The only time that is the case is in the community property states where the survivor is a spouse. I would contact the credit agencies (if theis did end up on your credit report) and request that it be removed based on that fact.
After her husband passed out, because of the heat. After her husband passed out, because of the heat.
You are not usually charged a fee for using your credit card. HOWEVER - the fees charged to the retailer by the credit card company, will covertly be passed on to all customers by charging more for their products !
Yes. When an account is jointly held, all parties are equally responsible for the entire amount owed.
