The first thing to do when the car won't shift correctly is to check the Transmission Fluid levels. If the fluid level is fine, there could be a problem with the throttle cable or with the transmission itself. Consulting with a mechanic is the best course of action.
I would guess you are low on transmission fluid.

Transmission problem, you have to replace or get it repaired.
A hard shift from first gear to second gear in the Honda Accord could be because of a linkage problem with the transmission. It could also be a problem with the transmission screen needing to be cleaned or low transmission fluid.
GET THE COMPUTER CHIP CHECKED FIRST!!! I had the same problem, for 1st and 2nd gears. I spent $1300. on a new transmission, only to find out it was a computer chip that was bad -$80 problem!!! Get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion at different garages so they don't try to cheat you!!
They've had the manual transmission option always. I believe 1991 was the first model year.
It depends on the type of transmission. If it is a manual transmission, the first thing to check would be the linkage. If the linkage is not the problem, then it could be the bushings or the synchronizer. If it is an automatic transmission, then it could be a problem with the bands, though you could have debris in the valve body or a servo problem. In some cases, linkage bearings could be an issue.
First Identify what transmission you have and get a rebuild kit for that transmission. Second purchase a Rebuild manual for that transmission, should cost about $30.00 Last and most important take your time and follow the instructions from the manual step by step DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING
They are the reccomended shifting points for a manual transmission. When you reach 'I', shift out of first, to second, and so on.
If you can feel the gear change from second to first when stopping you may need transmission fluids. The transmission could be slipping or going out also. Take the vehicle to a mechanic so that they can see what the problem is.
internal trans problem need new trans sorry
An automatic transmission might be slow shifting from first to second because of low transmission fluid. You might also have damaged the gears in the transmission at the area between first and second.
