When it comes to exercise there are a lot of options, and a lot of us are told that we need to do it more. If you need to get into the exercise game, and you have not had any experience with it since your middle school PE class, have no fear. There are ways to get started in exercise without having to be an expert. Have Realistic Expectations Yes, you are going to get started with exercise. You won't be running a marathon anytime soon however. Your goal is to set a realistic goal based on your current level of fitness. Maybe you walk up 10 flights of stairs every day, or maybe you spend most of your time on a couch. You have to be be realistic about what you're doing. I know that it can be hard to do at first. Most of us want to believe that we are able to do more, but you have to be realistic or you will fail. Pick An Exercise Now that you're ready to exercise, you have to pick one. The best thing to do is to pick an exercise that you will enjoy doing. Maybe you've always wanted to play tennis? Or perhaps you enjoy swimming? No matter what kind of exercise you choose make sure that you are going to be having fun with it. After all you are going to be doing it on a regular basis. Start Slow You don't have to be able to swim 10 miles, or even one to start with. Your goals is to just get started. So don't feel bad if you can't do things as well as you would like. Just track your progress. Write down what you did do, as best you can. An entry that is labeled: Pool 3 laps, should work just fine. The goal is to do what you can for now. You may be frustrated to find out how much you can do. If it does not sync to your expectations then you are just going to have to adjust. It isn't the happiest situation, but if you are will be willing to be patient then you will find that you are going to improve. Add Some More Once you have a log, you can start increasing your exercise. Perhaps once a week you add a little bit to your workout routine. If you start with three laps then you may be able to go to three and a half the next week. After that you can work your way up to four the week after that. If you can do that regularly then you will be up to 10 laps in a matter of weeks. Now that you have a plan you can get going. Just keep at it and you will see that with some patience, and a little bit of hard work you will be exercising without too much of a hassle. Who knows, in time you may find some joy in the exercise. You will definitely find joy in the results.
