Yes, but in some cases you would have to install an aftermarket head unit.
By sound system do you mean head unit? if so just about all head units will fit.
Install a subwoofer, amp, aftermarket speakers, and a head unit. Possibly, the easiest way to get the best out of your car audio system is to upgrade the speakers.

you would just install them like you would on a normal car, but I'm assuming you are using the stock head unit which doesn't have RCA outputs, so you will need to buy a line output converter to run the RCA cables from the head unit to the subs
Go to "the install doctor" website and look it up. It requires removing lots of panels and the entire glov box to access the screws necessary to access the head unit. However, with the 96-98 civics, the keyless entry electronics are built into the factory head unit (if the car has factory keyless entry). The website should help you out or you may want to get it professionally removed especially if you plan to install an after market HU in the car. Hope this helps!! -I am MECP Cirtified
To install an amplifier to an Impala head unit, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety. Connect the amplifier's power wire to the car's battery, ensuring a fuse is installed close to the battery. Run the ground wire to a solid metal point on the vehicle, and connect the remote turn-on wire from the head unit to the amplifier. Finally, connect the speaker wires from the amplifier to the speakers, and reconnect the battery.
go buy a mounting kit and a after market wire harness at walmart or your nearest car audio store
Your head unit probably doesn't have sufficient amperage to power the subwoofers.

Usually in the basics of any head unit installation you need to wire everything according to color... For what your askin the constant wire coming out from your car and coming out from your stereo is yellow so look for that first
Depends on your head unit. If you have a factory CD controller (has a button that says CD on it), you will need a OEM changer unit and harness that goes from behind the rear seat to the changer. If you want to install a new radio, there are many options. Brian
